Navi Mumbai International Airport will be operational by 2024, PM to inaugurate it CM Shinde

CM Eknath Shinde said that the 22 kilometers long Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, which is under construction, will connect to the Navi Mumbai international airport.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday announced that the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) will be operational by 2024 and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would inaugurate it.

After reviewing the work at the airport in Ulwe along with Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Shinde told reporters, “Work on Navi Mumbai International Airport is expected to be completed by 2024. During the review, we have been told that the completion would be around December 2024, but I have instructed to complete it before that. As PM Modi had laid the foundation stone of Samruddhi Expressway and he only dedicated it to the public, the foundation stone of the Navi Mumbai Airport was laid by PM Modi only and the inauguration of the airport will also be done by the PM.”

Shinde and Fadnavis inspected the airport site on a helicopter before holding a review meeting with the Adani Group’s representatives, who gave a detailed presentation to the leaders.

“The NMIA is going to be an important airport not only for Maharashtra but also for the country and will be reducing the burden on the Mumbai international airport, ” CM Shinde said.

Shinde said that the inspection was done on Wednesday to ensure that the airport opens on its planned schedule and added that the state government will provide all necessary help to sort out the hurdles in the ongoing work.

“The airport is important for Pune, Mumbai and Goa. The work is going on with speed and all efforts are underway to make this project open for the public soon.,”Shinde added.

Shinde said that the 22 kilometers long Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), which is under construction, will connect to the Navi Mumbai international airport. As many as 9 crore passengers will be transported every year from the NMIA, he said.

“Permissions are being issued at war footing to increase its capacity. The first phase has four terminals and will accommodate 42 aircraft. There will be a space for 5500 car parking. The airport stands on an area of 11.4 km and will have two runways,” a statement from the CMO stated.

Fadnavis said that the work at Navi Mumbai Airport is going at a fast pace and that it will be a “unique airport” in the country.
